An unidentified male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near the Waffle House on New Franklin Road Thursday afternoon shortly after 1:30 p.m.
The victim was transported via ambulance to a Columbus trauma center for emergency treatment. Police say he was unconscious at the scene and they are still working to identify him.
The victim appeared to have been seriously injured as a result of the collision. LaGrange Fire Department paramedics believe he had multiple fractures, including a head injury.
The driver of the pink Mitsubishi told police that she saw the pedestrian crossing the five-lane highway headed west as she traveled south on New Franklin Road in the far right lane. She stated she thought the male was going to stop in the middle turn lane, but he darted out in front of her and she was unable to stop.
Police say it appears as if the pedestrian thought he could beat the car across and made the poor decision to continue crossing the dangerous highway.
Police are currently working to identify the unknown victim via photograph because he had no identification.
This incident is still under investigation.
