LaGrange Police have arrested a convicted sex offender after he was found walking the streets late at night with a pocket full of drugs.
Friday morning about 2:04 a.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to the area of Miami Street in reference to reports of subjects walking in the rain carrying firearms.
While in the area, police observed a male wearing all black clothing walking on Miami Street. Police then began to check out the subject, later identified as Mondarious Pierre Towns, and he immediately appeared nervous and wanting to avoid getting close to officers.
Police say that during the encounter, Towns looked as if he was preparing to run. He also had a large item in his pocket, so officers asked him about it and he agreed to show it to police.
Towns then reached into his pocket and popped the top off of a plastic container, which fell to the ground. Police then noticed Towns appeared to be moving things around in his pocket, so officers grabbed him by the arm to detain him in handcuffs.
Officers say Towns then tensed up and tried to pull away, but in doing so, his cell phone, as well as a baggie containing eight tablets of MDMA (Ecstasy) fell out of his pocket.
Towns was then detained in handcuffs and searched to find a set of digital scales, along with a small Rubbermaid container, which had a strong odor of marijuana.
Towns was also determined to have warrants for his arrest for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, Failure to Appear, and Probation Violation.
As a result, Towns, age 27, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail charged with Possession of MDMA (Ecstasy) and the aforementioned warrants.
Towns is currently being held at the Troup County Jail where he was denied bond.
