Police Reports 5-22-2020

Monday afternoon, about 1:28 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to Borton Street in reference to a Burglary that already occurred.

Officers arrived and spoke to the Lucy Morgan Apartments management, who advised that unknown person(s) went into one of the apartments and stole a stove from the location.

The manager advised that the last time any workers were at the apartment was on May 15, at which time the stove was still in the apartment. She stated that when workers went into the apartment on Monday, they noticed the stove was missing.

No forced entry was found, but the complainant believes someone has a key because this is not the first incident at Lucy Morgan since they have been remodeling the buildings.

The stove was described as a Danby brand stove, valued at $650.

Officers processed the location for fingerprints and canvassed the area for possible witnesses. A nearby resident told police that she hasn’t seen anything, but she heard some noise in 501 B one night and the building should have been vacant.

Police are in the process of checking security video in the area.

This incident is still under investigation.

Monday afternoon, about 2:30 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to the Walmart on New Franklin in reference to Shoplifting.

Officers arrived and made contact with Loss Prevention, who stated that they observed a customer, later identified as Tony Jerome Shealey, walking through the meat section and selecting items.

Loss Prevention advised that Shealey selected four packages of sirloin steaks, valued at $58, and took them to another section of the store. Shealey was then seen concealing the steaks inside of his jacket.

Shealey then attempted to exit the store without purchasing the items he had concealed, but was confronted by employees and escorted to the Loss Prevention office.

The items concealed by Shealey were then recovered by Loss Prevention personnel.

After police confirmed these statements via security video, Shealey was placed under arrest for shoplifting.

Shealey was later found to have two prior convictions for Theft by Shoplifting.

Shealey, age 59, was later cited and released for Theft by Shoplifting – Less than $500.
