Pauline Annie South Herndon

Pauline Annie South Herndon, age 93 of Woodbury, GA died Sunday, March 26, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Woodbury, GA. Private memorial services for Mrs. Herndon will be held. Mrs. Herndon was born June 1, 1923 in Breman, GA the daughter of Sallie Ann Wilson South and Rubon Hudson South. She was a homemaker and loved gardening and canning vegetables and raising her five children. Mrs. Herndon worked during the pimento season for Nabisco, and helped to run the Woodbury Coin Laundry over the years. She attended the Woodbury Baptist Church. Mrs. Herndon was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 54 years P.A. Herndon, Jr.; sons William Joseph Herndon and Paul Anthony Herndon; sisters; Mettarea Kinnerly, Lottie Mae South and Alice Jackson and brother Thomas Jefferson South. She is survived by her children Phyllis B. (Harold) Daniel of Woodbury; Charles E. “Red” Herndon of Box Springs, GA; Leta (Robbie) Phillips of Warm Springs, Lisa A. (James) Colbert of Woodbury; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers contribution in memory of Mrs. Pauline A. Mary Margaret Neighbors

Mrs. Mary Margaret Neighbors, age 86, of LaGrange, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at West Georgia Medical Center. Margaret was born February 6, 1931 in Ephesus, Georgia the loving daughter of John Bailey Cofield and Ellen Jane Smith Cofield. Margaret’s passion in life was her family and her gardening. She is survived by her two sons, Wendell and Andy Herren; two grandsons, Scott and Ben Herren; three great-grandchildren, Skylar, Tyler and Jax Herren. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Lamon Lee Neighbors Sr. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5th at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with interment to follow at Shadowlawn Cemetery. Sarah B. Rogers

LANETT – Mrs. Sarah B. Rogers, age 92, of Lanett died Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 30, at 11:00A.M. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley, Alabama. Reverend Danny Smith officiated. Burial followed in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett. The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 6:00P.M. EDT until 8:00P.M. EDT. Mrs. Rogers is survived by her two daughters, Gloria (George) Buttram of Ranburne, Alabama, and Angela (Danny) Smith of Lanett; four grandchildren, Christy (Adrian) Carpenter of Valley, Allison (Chris) Richards of Lanett, and Lyn (Carole) Joyner and Richard (Cristy) Buttram, both of Ranburne; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris B. Jones of Bowdon, Georgia. Born July 27, 1924, in Troup County, Georgia, Mrs. Rogers was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an active member of Sunset Heights Baptist Church and later of West Side Baptist Church, where she taught Girls’ Auxiliary and Sunday School, sang in the choir, and participated in the Woman’s Missionary Union. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, William Curtis Rogers.  She was the daughter of the late James A. and Rosa E. Brand. Minnie Kate Hardy

Minnie Kate Hardy, the daughter of the late Tom Reed and Willie L. Reed was born June 19, 1939 in Chambers County, Alabama. Minnie attended Mt Beulah Elementary School. She was employed with Milliken and retired after 28 years of dedicated service. She departed life and went on to her divine appointment on March 28, 2017 at WellStar West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange, Georgia. Though she is absent from her earthly body, she now worships in the presence of the Lord. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary E. Reed, Mary L. Smith, Thelma Douglas, Johnny Ruth Grady, Thomas Reed, Henry Reed, and John H. Reed. She leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted husband, Charlie L. Hardy; her children, only beloved daughter, Vivian Q. Hardy, her five sons, Melvin J. Hardy, Bobby L. Hardy (Cynthia), Lester L. Hardy (Amelia), Nathaniel L. Hardy (Eva), Don C. Hardy (Betty); her loving brother, Willie Joe Reed; 21 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews; special friend, Janice O’Neil, and other relatives and friends. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Monday at 3:30 at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church. Pastor W. Craig Thornton officiated. Burial followed at Southveiw Cemetery.

Janie Williams

Mrs. Janie Williams, of Lanett, AL passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017 at EAMC-Lanier Nursing Home. Janie Williams (affectionately known as “Big Mama”) was born on May 7, 1922 in Chambers County, AL to the late Charlie Potts and Fannie Patrick Potts. In need of another Angel, God gave her wings and called her home on Friday March 24, 2017 at the East Alabama Medical Center Lanier Nursing Home, Valley, AL. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and united with the St. John Baptist Church in Lanett, AL, where she served on the Missionary Board, Usher Board, as a Choir Member, a member of the Deacon’s Wives Auxiliary, and as a Sunday School Teacher. She attended Chamber County Schools and later worked as a hard dedicated worker. She was employed with West Point Pepperell for many years. After retirement she became employed by the state Of Alabama, and later as a homemaker. Janie loved to cook, clean, read her bible and to sing her favorite church hymns. She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil Williams Sr., her son Jesse Heard, and her nine siblings. Janie leaves to cherish her daughter Celia Thomas (Robert) Atlanta, GA, a granddaughter, who also served as her caregiver, Erica Thomas Atlanta, GA; 10 grandchildren, 29 great grand, 15 great great grandchildren, two close cousins, Mae Moss, Lanett, AL, Christine Carter, Cincinnati, Ohio and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Janie Williams of Lanett, AL were held on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 2:00 pm, et at the St. John Baptist Church, Lanett, AL. Rev. Charles Trammell, Pastor, Eulogist. Interment followed in the St. John Cemetery.

Dorothy “Gramma” Lyons

Mrs. Dorothy “Gramma” Lyons, age 78, of LaGrange, GA passed away Friday, March 31, 2017 at Hospice LaGrange. Mrs. Lyons was born March 25, 1939 in Chicago Heights, IL, daughter of John and Gladys Roggemann. She was a member of Advent Lutheran Church and was retired from West Georgia Medical Center. Survivors include her husband, David Lyons; daughter, Lorrie Karpik; sons, David (Wendy) Lyons and Jim (Tracy) Lyons; eight grandchildren, Jodi (Jeremy) Vaughn, Jeff (Whitney) Karpik, Chad Lyons (Erika Atkinson), Drew Lyons, Meagan Lyons Daniel, Katie Lyons, Matt Lyons, and Abby Lyons; 8 great grandchildren, Kirstin Vaughn, Sophie Vaughn, Adaly Lyons, Izzy Vaughn, Lorali Daniel, Greyson Lyons, Burkley Karpik, and Aria Daniel; sister, Joan Witvoet; and a brother, John Roggemann, Jr. The gathering of family and friends was held on Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. A private Celebration of Life service will be held later with her son, Bro. Jim Lyons, officiating. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests contributions be made to Hospice LaGrange or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Mrs. Dorothy Lyons.
