Benjamin Sanford Rosamond

Mr. Benjamin Sanford Rosamond, age 92, of LaGrange, passed away on April 3, 2019 at the WellStar West Georgia Hospice.  Mr. Rosamond was born on January 8, 1927 in LaGrange to the late Henry Thomas Rosamond and Johnnie Wade Williams Rosamond.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a Foreman at the end of his career, working for B.H. Douglas Aluminum for over 50 years.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Iva Jean Moore Rosamond and a son, Michael Rosamond.  Survivors include his sons, Sam Rosamond, Tim Rosamond and Randy Rosamond; sisters, Margaret Richardson and Dorothy Sams; 7 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; extended family and friends.  Funeral services was held on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel.  Interment followed at Shadowlawn Cemetery. Family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm until service hour.

 

Virginia Holland “Gin” McKay

Mrs. Virginia Holland “Gin” McKay, age 87, passed away on April 2, 2019 at the Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.  Mrs. McKay was born on October 27, 1931 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Clarence Holland and Lunette Edwards Holland.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Max McKay. Survivors include her son, Tony McKay and his wife Patsy; daughters, Cindy Norman and her husband Eric; sister, Diane Sims; grandchildren, Max Norman, Kimberly Martin and Holly McKay; great grandchildren, Willow McDonald and Aubrey Martin; extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 5, 2019, at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church on the Square with Dr. Paul Baxter, Pastor Cade Farris and Rev. Paul Blair in charge of the service.  Private family entombment will be held at Shadowlawn Cemetery.  Family will receive friends on Friday at the church from 10:00 am until service hour. Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.

Genva Hodges Breland

Mrs. Geneva Hodges Breland, 97, of LaGrange and formerly of Savannah, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at Hospice LaGrange. Mrs. Breland was born March 11, 1922, in Tattnall County, daughter of the late Henry and Sallie Hendrix Hodges. A resident of the Savannah area most of her life, she was a member of Atlantic Primitive Baptist Church, but had attended Dunson United Methodist Church after making her home in LaGrange several years ago. She was recently added to the membership roll of Mt. Carmel United

Methodist Church in Grays, SC. Survivors include her son and daughter in-law, Dan and Cherri Breland of LaGrange; grandchildren, David and Meredith Breland, Amanda and Ryan Wardell, Candace and Jarred Baker; and four great-grandchildren, with one more soon to arrive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Otto Breland, and her brother, L. C. Hodges. The family received friends Friday, April 5, at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. An additional visitation was held Saturday, April 6, at Fox and Weeks Hodgson Chapel in Savannah and a graveside service was conducted at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, April 7, at Hillcrest East Cemetery in Savannah. Flowers are welcomed, or memorial contributions may be made to West Georgia Hospice.

 

Velma Joan Cobb Mrs. Velma Joan Cobb, 86, of Barnesville, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at her home. Mrs. Cobb was born December 24, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of the late Harry Green Rice and Blonnie Belle Overfield Rice. She retired after serving as a real estate agent for more than fifty years and was associated with Deed Realty in Michigan for many years. She had made her home in Barnesville since 2015. Survivors include her daughter and son in-law, Thresia and Richard Goodrich of Barnesville; son and daughter in-law, Wayne and Thresia Cobb of Clarkston, Michigan; grandchildren, Frank Cobb and his wife Amanda Cobb, Jontel Lidman and her husband Daniel Lidman, Antonio Kildani, Tristan Goodrich, Erienne Goodrich; and great-grandchildren, Kyley Cobb, Hayley Cobb, Kayley Cobb, and a great-grandson to arrive in July. The funeral service was conducted at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, April 7, at Rock Springs Church in Milner, with the Rev. Taylor McNeely officiating. A second funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 13, in the Chapel of Meyers Funeral Home in Marion, KY, with interment in Loveless Chapel Cemetery in Salem, KY.
