Wylean Smith

Mother Wylean Smith was born in LaGrange Georgia October 27, 1912, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Earnest and Della Moss Norwood. She was married to the late Judge Woodyard Senior on August 28, 1927. On Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the age of one hundred and six, Wylean passed away peacefully in Inkster, Michigan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Cotton; son, Otis Woodyard Senior; daughter, Earnestine Williams; grandchildren: Gary Dowell and Ronald Gillam Wylean is survived by her two daughters: Sherry (Ralph) Kennedy of LaGrange Georgia; and Shelia Curtis of Inkster Michigan; grandchildren: Valerie Williams, Joseph Williams, James Williams, Apriel Williams, Kelishia Ford Burks, Myrone Smith, Hinson Turner, Linda Johnson, Ervin Woodyard, Doretha Woodyard, Jerome Woodyard; Sally Ransom, Dian Norwood, Marlyn, Otis Woodyard Junior, Mariah; and a host of great-grandchildren, friends and co-workers.The Celebration of Life Service will be Monday, July 1, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Smyrna Baptist Church. Pastor Lonnie Walls will officiate. Interment will follow at Union Springs Cemetery.

 

Jacqueline Turner

Ms. Jacqueline Tuner was born June 14, 1953 in Pine Mountain, Georgia to the late, Henry B. and Geneva Maddox Turner. She became a member of New Solomon Grove Baptist Church at an early age where she served faithfully. She was an active Soloist and Piano Player. “Jackie” or “Peggy” as she was known, graduated from Harris County High School, Class of 1973. She continued her educated at Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama where she received her Bachelor’s Degree. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree. She was formally the Principle of Light of the World Christian School in San Jose, California.On Friday, June 21, 2019, Jackie passed away at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Andrew Turner, Otis Turner, and Freddy Turner. She leaves to cherish her memories, three brothers: Herman (Patricia) Turner, Riverdale, GA; Jimmy (Kasi) Turner, Lithia Springs, GA; and Pastor Dale Turner, Pine Mountain, GA; two sisters: Clara Jones, Pine Mountain, GA; and Yvonne (Michael) Baity, San Jose, CA; sister-in-law, Catherine Turner; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Mountain Hill Baptist Church. Pastor Ervin Smith and Elder Joe Maddox officiated. Interment followed at New Solomon Grove Baptist Church.

Richard Donnell Harris

Mr. Richard Donnell Harris was born June 28, 1955 in LaGrange, Georgia to the late Amos Harris, Sr. and Willie D. Harris. He was educated by Troup County School System and later received his Carpentry License. He dedicated many years at Wal-Mart Distribution Center and later was employed at the LaGrange Housing Authority as a Maintenance Technician. At an early age, he joined Sardis Baptist Church in LaGrange, Georgia. Richard was a sports enthusiast; he enjoyed the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and playing horseshoes. On Monday, June 24, 2019, Richard passed away at his home in LaGrange, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Wilburt Harris, Oscar Harris, Johnny B. Harris, Curtis Harris; two sisters, Sara Lee Harris and Dorothy Harris. He was survived by his six children: Johnny Jerome Easter, Antonia Dorsey, Ansha Ware, Donna (Jarmenn) Gates, Richard Harris,Jr., Dyland Harris; twelve grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother, Amos Harris, Jr., four sisters: Willie Mae (James) Harrell, Eva Jean Hall, Virginia Glenn, Angela Askew; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.The Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Confidence Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Michael J. Jackson and Pastor Stafford E. Dudley officiated. Interment followed at Southview Cemetery.

 

Sammy Lee Cotton

Sammy Lee Cotton was born October 14, 1931 in LaGrange, Georgia to the late Henry Lee and Johnnie Mae Cotton. He attended Jones Street Elementary School and was employed by Milliken & Company and the Troup County School System at Whitesville Road Elementary School. He served for two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Cotton was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool, and was an outstanding pitcher for the City Cat Baseball Team. He loved reading God’s Word. On Tuesday, June 25, 2019, Sammy passed away at his home in LaGrange, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Amanda Mae Patterson Cotton; great-grandson, Josiah Birdsong; sisters: Essie Mae Hayes and Etterene Cotton; brother, Henry Lee (Willenia) Cotton, Jr.; uncle, Lucious Cotton; nephew, Robert B. “NuNu” Hayes, and niece, Ovira Daniels. He is survived by his loving children, Linda G. Mitchell, Detroit, MI; Samuel V. (Lera) Cotton, Jeffery I. (Monia) Cotton, Vanessa D. (Joe Henry) Birdsong, Lawanda A. Cotton, Pastor Antonyetta R. (Lewis) Cato, and Montre V. (David) Brown; nine grandchildren, Lashika Birdsong, Katie Birdsong, Cordero Cotton, Gregory Griggs, Jestin Cotton, Samantha Cotton, Kwame Brown, Kelsey Cotton, Kenyetta Cotton; seven adorable great-grandchildren; brother, Robert “Pilo” (Wendy) Cotton, Newark, NJ; and a host of nieces and nephews. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday June 29, 2019 at 12:00 PM at Church of the King. Apostle Hope Taylor, Pastor, Rev. Chalton Askew, and Pastor Antonyetta Cato officiated. The family was at their home at 117 Timothy Street.
