Edward West Daniel

Mr. Edward “Ned” West Daniel, age 89, of LaGrange, passed away on July 21, 2019.  Mr. Daniel was born on November 24, 1929 in Sandersville, Georgia to the late James Hiram Daniel and Helen West Daniel.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army and worked for many years at Callaway Mills/ Milliken & Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Daniel Padgett. Survivors include his wife, Betty Knight Langley Daniel; children, Elizabeth “Libba” Daniel Murray (Gene Lynch) of Orlando, Florida, Catherine “Cacky” Daniel McKenzie (Ray) of LaGrange, Sally Daniel Howard (Jim) of Macon; grandchildren, Christopher Edward Murray, Catherine “Katie” McKenzie Williams (Carter), Collier West McKenzie (Meredith) and Laura Howard Mundy (Stephen); great grandchildren, West, Harrison and Langley; extended family and friends. Memorial services for Mr. Daniel will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.  A reception will follow the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Columbarium Fund, 207 N. Greenwood St., LaGrange, 30240



Paul David Joy

Mr. Paul D. Joy, 79, of LaGrange, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Joy was born October 18, 1939, in Cassadaga, NY, son of the late Horace and Carrie Green Joy. A veteran of service in the U.S. Army from 1958 until 1961, he lived in Troup County most of his life and retired as a machinist from OZ Gedney. He was a member of Midway United Methodist Church, had served as a volunteer at West Georgia Medical Center, was involved at the Active Life Center in LaGrange, and loved nature, gardening and bird-watching. A member of 2-Cylinder Tractor Club in Carrollton, he enjoyed restoring tractors and had won several trophies for his work. Survivors include his wife, Nell Joy of LaGrange; son, David Joy of Sharpsburg; daughter, Penny Joy Hyatt of Newnan; step-daughters, Robin Dunlap Cofield and her husband Marty of LaGrange, Angie Dunlap Cassell and her husband Lamar of Franklin; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Elsie Livermore of New York; step-sisters, Lynn Bowersox of Hawaii, Susan Josephson and Jan Spinler of New York; and step-brothers, Sam Spaulding and Dennis Ridout, both of New York. The funeral service was conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 21, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Betty Jean Bowers officiated and intermention was in Myrtle Hill Cemetery with military honors. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Saturday night. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Casper LeRoy Ellis

Mr. Casper LeRoy Ellis, 77, of LaGrange passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019 at his home on Hill Street. Mr. Ellis was born September 20, 1941 in Avon Park Florida the son of the late Casper H. and Mrs. Alma Lois Thomlinson Ellis. Mr. Ellis was a member of the Cowboy Church and retired from Fredenburg-NOK as a maintence tech. Casper was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam era and a lifetime member of DAV. Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Kirby Ellis and a son, Anthony Scott Ellis, and sister, Jan Fels. Survivors include: Daughter and Son in law: Marit (Pepper) & Chris Hagebak. Daughter-in-law: Robin Monan Ellis. Grandchildren: Amber (Brett) Karr, Caleb E. Ellis, and Sage Hagebak. Great Grandchildren: Tinsley Karr and Hudson Karr. Sister-in-law: Pat Huber. Special Friends: Mike and Bonnie King. Memorial Services for Mr. Casper LeRoy Ellis will be held at 5:00 P.M., Saturday, August 10, 2019 from the Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, August 10, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. until the service hour. The family requests that memorial be made to the Disabled American Veterans in memory of Mr. Ellis.


Gary L. Massey

Mr. Gary L Massey, 70, of LaGrange passed away Saturday afternoon, July 20, 2019 at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center emergency room. Mr. Massey was born April 11, 1949 in LaGrange the son of the late Claude and Maybelle Edmondson Massey. Gary was a 1967 graduate Troup High School and 1974 Graduate of LaGrange College. Mr. Massey proudly served his country in the United States Army having obtained the rank of SP5 (E-5), and retired in 2009 from the Georgia Department of Labor after 34 year’s service. Gary was a member of Cross Point Church and enjoyed visiting with his wife at First United Methodist Church LaGrange. Mr. Massey was a good servant of the Lord and beloved by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife: Rumi Smith-Massey. Brothers and Sister-in-laws: Ken & Patty Massey and Ronnie and Joann Massey. Niece and Nephews: Katie Massey, Scott Massey, and Bubba Massey. Step-Children: Leah and Rob Smith, Charles and Casey Smith, Christi Smith, and Yurii and Jeremy Crockett. 13 step grandchildren and Father-in-law Charles Wyman. Funeral Services for Mr. Gary L. Massey will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday from the chapel of the Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with Pastor JasonVeitch officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home (Wednesday) evening from six until eight o’clock. Interment will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Diane Hardnett Brewer

Diane Hardnett Brewer “Diamond” was born September 23, 1958 in Lanett (Chambers County) Alabama to Mrs. Ella Mae Johnson Hardnett and the late Henry Lee Hardnett. She was educated by Lanett City Schools where she was involved in several activities, her favorite being Softball. Diane was previously employed by West Point Pepperell. In the mid 70s, she relocated to LaGrange, Georgia. She united with Smyrna Baptist Church and remained a faithful and active member. “Diamond” as she was known by her baby girl, Tamala; enjoyed her family. She also loved to travel to the casino. On Saturday, July 13, 2019; our beloved Diane passed away at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Georgia. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her sister/best friend, Betty Ann Slaughter; grandmother, Corine Johnson; aunt, Sharon Flourney; and great nephew, DeJarious Hardnett. She leaves a legacy of love and precious memories to be cherished by:  her daughter, Tamala (Eric) Hardnett Gamble; son, Michael Brewer; seven grandchildren:  Dre, Torie, Zamari, Marquavian, Mikayla, Travontae, Alexiauna; six great grandchildren:  Drea, King, Kash, Shine, Money, and Baby; mother, Ella Mae Hardnett; six sisters:  Floria Harrison, Lanett, AL; Dorothy Ridgeway, LaGrange, GA; Ethel (Warren) Vines, Carrolton, VA; Robin (Randy) Gates, Loretta Hardnett, LaGrange, GA; and Ruby T. Truitt, Lanett, AL; five brothers:  Willie Hardnett, James Hardnett, Kandy Hardnett, Jeffery Hardnett, and Alvin Hardnett, all of LaGrange, GA; her nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends; several close friends, and one very special friend that she spent and shared a lot of time with for several years of her life, Mr. Clarence “Slate Rock” Cameron. The Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Smyrna Baptist Church. Pastor Lonnie Walls officiated. Interment followed at Restlawn Memory Gardens. The family was at their home at 204 Heritage Road.


Jessie B. Duncan

Mr. Jessie B. Duncan, age 80, of LaGrange, Georgia passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at WellStar West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange, Georgia. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Faith Temple Church of Deliverance. Apostle C. M. Chivers will officiate. Interment will follow at Southview Cemetery.

Gary Eugene Robinson Jr.

Gary was born August 16, 1950 in LaGrange, GA to the late Lee Joseph Robinson and Katherine Scarborough Robinson. He retired from Georgia Pacific in the maintenance department and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Gary was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting as often as possible. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Cary Robinson; sons, David Robinson and Gary Robinson, Jr.; and infant daughter, Brenda Jo Robinson. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Kimberly Rowlett; grandchildren, Ethan Rowlett, Emily Rowlett, Cassidy Robinson, Caleb Robinson, Destaney Rader, and Dustin Robinson; several great grandchildren, close cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The Funeral Service will be Friday, July 26, 2019 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Rev. Mike Gay officiating. Burial will follow in Meadoway Gardens. The family will receive friends 10:00am Friday, July 26, 2019 prior to the service at the funeral home. The family will gather at the home of his daughter, Kimberly.
