Rochelle B. Rutland
Rochelle Williams Rutland, 81, of LaGrange, GA passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at the Florence Hand Home. Rochelle was born July 19, 1938 in Troup County, GA to the late Lewis C. Bonner and Inez Dukes Hale. She was a member of Plant City Baptist Church in Valley, AL and worked a number of years at Kay Jewelry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe V. Williams, Jr. and George Rutland; daughter, Pam Williamson; and brothers, Ronnie Bonner and Tommy Hale. Survivors include her children, Paula and Jerry Knight, Joey and Janelle Williams; son-in-law, Larry Williamson; step-children, Carol and Tom Bennett, Arlene and Leon Weathers, Joan and Byrd Worthy, Jane and Manuel Rodriguez; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; other relatives and friends. The Gathering of Family and Friends was between 11:00am until 12:00pm at the funeral prior to the service. The Funeral Services were held Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary where Rev. Brad Reed officiated. Burial followed in Meadoway Gardens. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice LaGrange in memory of Rochelle W. Rutland.
Lloyd Burton Hacker, Sr.
L loyd Burton Hacker, 83, died July 15, 2019 at The Gardens of Social Circle. Mr. Hacker was a native of Kentucky. He was born July 7, 1936 to David and Clara Baisley Hacker. He was married to the late Janice Jones Hacker. The Hackers spent most of their married lives in LaGrange, GA. Mr. Hacker was self-employed as an insurance claims adjuster. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. Mr. Hacker was a member of LaGrange First Baptist Church on the Square. Mr. Hacker is survived by a son, Burton Hacker and his wife Stephanie. He also leaves a daughter in law Kristi Hacker; a brother, David Hacker and his wife, Mildred; a sister-in-law, Muriel Johnson; his grandchildren, Rebecca Hayes and Jake, Katie Hacker, Sam Hacker, Amy Johnson and Adam Johnson. Mr. Hacker was preceded in death by his wife, Janice and a son, Ricky Hacker. Funeral service was 2:00pm Tuesday, July 23, 2019 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Rev. Wayne Ghann officiated. The committal service followed at the Shadowlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. The family received friends from 1:00pm until service time at the funeral home. Lorraine Larson Liska
Mrs. Lorraine Larson Liska, 89, of Hogansville, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Florence Hand Home. Born August 3, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Liska was the daughter of the Late Roy Robert Larson and Edna Wulf Larson. She was a dental assistant, a homemaker, and has lived in Georgia since 2009. Mrs. Liska had a beautiful voice and loved to sing and was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Columbus. Survivors include her son, Ronald Liska, Jr. and his wife, Mary; daughter, Cheryl Manis and her husband, Mike; grandsons, Scott A. Liska, Erik Manis, Bryan Manis, and Shawn Manis; great-grandchildren, Margaret Liska, Alyna Manis, Ayden Manis, Micheal Manis, and Colin Liska. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Liska was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald A. Liska. The family will hold a time of remembrance at a later date.
Jerry Frank Chesser
Jerry Frank Chesser, 82, of Pine Mountain Valley, GA, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at his home. Funeral service was held 11:00 am, Saturday, July 27, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Hamilton. Interment followed in Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange, GA. Visitation was from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Friday at Cox Funeral Home, Hamilton. Mr. Chesser was born November 20, 1936 in Brownfield, TX, the son of Louis and Lena Jones Chesser. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was a retired fireman from Vidor, TX. Jerry loved cooking on his B-B-Q pit, feeding others and making them happy. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jimmy and Latrelle Chesser. Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Yellott Chesser of Pine Mountain Valley; four daughters, Rebecca Burch, Tamara Kay Flores, Lisa Pope, all of Texas, Tracy Leigh of Utah; one son, Gary Frank Chesser of Texas; granddaughter, Emily Flores of Texas, great grandson, Corbin Flores of Texas; step-daughter, Carolina (Terry) Gautreaux; step-son, Hans W. (Jennifer) Dewit, Jr.; grandsons, Hans Dylan Dewit and Holden Drake Dewit.
Edward “Ned” West Daniel
Mr. Edward “Ned” West Daniel, age 89, of LaGrange, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2019. Mr. Daniel was born on November 24, 1929, in Sandersville, Georgia, to the late James Hiram Daniel and Helen West Daniel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Daniel Padgett. Mr. Daniel graduated from the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. There he met his beautiful Betty Knight and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage. He served his country in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant in the Korean War (1951-1953). Mr. Daniel was employed by Consolidated Textiles in Lynchburg, VA, from 1953-1957. Upon moving to LaGrange (and during the time his family lived in Lakeland, FL), he was employed at Callaway Mills/Milliken & Company where he worked until his retirement in 1991 as Territorial Sales Manager. Mr. Daniel was a founding member of South Rotary Club in Lakeland, FL, and he served as President of the Highland Country Club in LaGrange. He was an avid golfer, reader and loved traveling with Betty Knight. He was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, layreader and Lay Eucharistic Minister. He was an active participant in the Meals on Wheels program at St. Mark’s. Ned Daniel was a loving husband and father. He was beloved by all who knew him because they believed Ned truly loved them and he did! He had an amazing sense of humor and a great enthusiasm for life. He loved to entertain others with his jokes and storytelling abilities. Survivors include his wife, Betty Knight Langley Daniel; children, Elizabeth “Libba” Daniel Murray (Gene Lynch) of Orlando, Florida, Catherine “Cacky” Daniel McKenzie (Ray) of LaGrange, Sally Daniel Howard (Jim) of Macon; grandchildren, Christopher Edward Murray, Catherine “Katie” McKenzie Williams (Carter), Collier West McKenzie (Meredith) and Laura Howard Mundy (Stephen); Great Grandchildren, West and Harrison McKenzie and Langley Mundy. He was affectionately known as “Daddy Ned” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial services for Mr. Daniel will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the St Mark’s Episcopal Church. A reception will follow the service atthe church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Columbarium Fund, 207 N.Greenwood St., LaGrange, 30240.
