James Irvin Robinson

Mr. James Irvin Robinson, age 70, of LaGrange, passed away on October 30, 2019 at the WellStar Kennestone Hospital. Mr. Robinson was born on September 24, 1949 in Lee County, Alabama. His parents, Harvey and Gladys Taylor Robinson preceded him in death. Mr. Robinson proudly served his country in the United States Navy and worked for many years at Kroger as a Scan Coordinator. Survivors include his wife, Jane Sanders Hendrix Robinson; children, Brian Robinson, Tonya Bowen, Jamie Hendrix, Amie Williams and Melia Letson; brothers, David Thomas (Susan) and Wayne Thomas (Nancy); sisters, Libby King, Patricia Lamb, Vivian Kirk and Martha Green; grandchildren, Chloeigh Robinson, Hampton Robinson, Skylar Batchelor and Lee Thomas; sister and brother in law, Sharon and Roy Cummings; special friends, Mitch and Debbie Hollingsworth; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel. Entombment followed at the Restlawn Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 11:00 am until service hour.

Ruby Kate Gilbert

Ms. Ruby Kate Gilbert was born March 26, 1955 in Troup County Georgia to the late Walter and Jennie Lou Gilbert, she was the second of six siblings. She united with Union Chapel Baptist Church where she served faithfully as an Usher. Ruby graduated from Troup High School in 1974. She was a domestic worker. Ruby was a loving, caring, strong God-fearing woman who greeted everyone with open arms. On Saturday October 26, 2019 our beloved Ruby Kate departed this life at the age of sixty-four. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents: Henry and Precious Daniels, Lonnie and Classie Gilbert; nephew, Stephen Smith; nine aunts and twelve uncles. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, four children: LaQuisha Gilbert, Jon (Judy) Gilbert, Moneka (Kendrell) Gilbert, and Tiffany (Jarvis) Gilbert, all of LaGrange, GA; in addition to her children, three other children whom she reared as her own: CJ Madden(nephew), Jedda Madden (niece) and Timerian Gilbert (niece); grandchildren: Ti’Nya, Zi’Karia, MiAsia, Kendrea, Kendrez, Kamora, Malana, Jazmine, Aaliyah and Su’raya (due to arrive in December); siblings: Mary (Dewery) Davenport, Chattanooga, TN; Vivian (Gregory) Smith, Atlanta GA; Otis (Salandra) Gilbert, LaGrange, GA; Timothy Gilbert, Dallas ,GA; Stacey Gilbert, LaGrange, GA; three aunts: Louvonia Motin, Pine Mountain, GA; Jeanette Brooks, Jefferson, GA; Josephine Gates, LaGrange, GA; nine nieces, six nephews, ten great nieces, two great nephews, two great-great nieces all of whom she shared a special bond and loving relationship with and array of relatives and friends. The Celebration of Life Service was on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Burks Chapel United Methodist Church. Pastor Brandon Fletcher and Rev. Oliver Wood officiated. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery.

 

Jerry Jerome Cofield

 

Jerry Jerome Cofield was born August 14, 1957 in LaGrange, Georgia to the late, Hattie Mae Cofield and Adell Dollar, Jr. He graduated from Troup High School, where he won the state title in Wrestling. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, and served four years in Germany. Upon completing his term in the Army, he became employed by SPC as a Team Leader; and retried from Daniel Lumber Company as the Lead Lumberer. J. C., as he was known by many, was a die hard “Falcons” Fan. He loved his family with all his heart. Jerry was a very humble and was often referred to as being the “Coolest Cat” known to man. On Saturday, October 26, 2019; Jerry departed this life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, George Heard, Jr.; brother, Ronnie Cofield; brother-in-law, Steve Childs; grandmother, Annie Mae Cofield; grandfather, Aaron Cofield; aunts, Clara Young, Bertha Cofield, Bessie Cofield, Annie Ruth Cofield, Cora Cofield, and Marie Allen; uncles, Ralph Cofield, Lonnie Cofield, and Willie Cofield; niece, Tarvanisha Boyd; nephew, Natorian Brown. He leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter, Ashley Nicole Cofield; one son, Bret Drew Cofield; three sisters: Hattie Ruth (Steve) Childs, Margie Ann Cofield, and Eva (Nathaniel) Hardy; four brothers: Horace (Linda) Cofield, Shawn Cofield, all of LaGrange, GA; Danny (Sandra) Cofield, KY; and Melvin Cofield, Columbus, GA; one aunt, Mary Ann Tucker, LaGrange, GA; special nieces: Sabrina Cofield, Patunya Cofield, Chantriss Childs, and Shinead Cofield; special nephews, Donald Cofield, Donal Cameron, Travis Childs, Horace Cofield, Jr., Dereck Jones, and Darin Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The Celebration of Life Service was on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 2:30 PM at Confidence Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Michael J. Jackson officiated. Interment followed at Southview Cemetery.

 

Deacon Otis Hightower

Deacon Otis Hightower was born December 19, 1935 to the late Robert and Mamie Hightower, Sr. in Pine Mountain (Chipley), Georgia. He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Gerlene Hightower on April 6, 1957. To this union, five children were born. His daughter, Janice Elaine Neal, precedes him in death. Otis was employed at West Point Pepperell Dixie Mill in LaGrange, Georgia over twenty-five years. In addition, he worked in landscaping for many years at Callaway Gardens and some private residents. He received Christ at an early age and became a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He served his church in several capacities for many years. He was Chairman of the Deacon Board, Superintendent of Sunday School and Adult Sunday School Teacher. Otis enjoyed spending time talking and laughing with family and friends. Fishing was his favorite past time hobby. On October 29, 2019, Deacon Hightower transitioned from this life to his heavenly home after his illness. In addition to his parents, and his daughter, Janice; he was preceded in death by his sister, Millie Ellis. He is survived by his loving children: Debbie (Garrett) Johnson, Adolphus Hightower, Gregory (Kathleen) Hightower, Jeffrey Hightower; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; his brother: Robert (Christine) Hightower, Jr.; his uncle: Rev. James E. Hightower, Sr.; four sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. The Celebration of Life Service was on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Bethany Baptist Church. Rev. James E. Hightower, Sr. officiated. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery.
