With the weather over the past few days getting more and more rough, it is imperative now to keep your driving under close watch and make sure that you obeying all of the rules of the road in order to avoid a catastrophe.
One unfortunate occurrence of bad weather occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 24, when two cars collided in a head on collision on Hogansville Road, right in front of Gazebo Springs.
According to authorities on the scene, the truck involved was heading north on Hogansville Road and the car was approaching from the south end. The driver of the car accidentally swerved into the wrong lane and after trying to overcorrect, struck the truck head on at full speed.
The crash was a devastating one, twisting the front of both vehicles into a smoldering pile of metal and smoke. The man in the car needed to have the Jaws of Life utilized to be able to be recovered from the vehicle. The man was badly wounded.
The passengers from the truck were airlifted out and away to seek treatment while the man was rushed by ambulance to a facility in Columbus. All that remained was a cruel mixture of glass, molded plastic, and carnage in the middle of the road. We wish both men a very speedy recovery and know that they are in the best medical care.
Paramedics, firefighters, state troopers, and other personnel were quick to swarm the scene and help those in need.
In the world and the shape that it is in today, it is comforting to know that there are those here in this county that are quick and selfless to help out those in need. Please make sure to be grateful and thankful of all of those public servants who are here to help us all and please be careful as you travel the wet roads here in Troup County.
