LaGrange Police arrested a wanted man on additional charges after he was found with a pocket full of illegal drugs.
Monday night about 10 p.m., officers with the La-Grange Police Department made contact with a wanted suspect at a traffic safety checkpoint on Murphy Avenue.
While making contact with a Buick Lacrosse at the checkpoint, officers observed one of the rear seat passengers start fidgeting, and visibly shaking, trying to avoid eye contact.
Police recognized the subject from a previous encounter and eventually identified him as Robert Lee Towns Jr., who had an active warrant for his arrest for Failure to Appear.
Towns was then removed from the vehicle and taken into custody. Prior to a search to arrest Towns admitted to having a pipe that he used to smoke “dope.” He also admitted to having a rolled marijuana blunt in his pocket.
During a subsequent search, police located black sock that had a clear glass pipe and a clear plastic bag containing a suspected methamphetamines. When questioned about the substance, Towns admitted it was meth.
Police also located a brown cigar containing suspected marijuana in Towns’ possession.
As a result, Towns, age 24, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail charge with Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) and Possession of Marijuana Less than an Ounce, along with the warrant for Failure to Appear.
